Pulsatilla Nigricans commonly known as Wind flower is a perennial plant native to England. It is characterised by bell shaped flowers with colour varying from dark violet to light blue. The leaves are feather like. Root is thick and short with strong fibres. It is called Pasque Flower because it is in bloom at Easter, and its flowers are used for colouring Easter eggs.
The Pulsatilla is suited to the people who are too gentle, timid, and oversensitive towards external impressions. They have tendency to cry over little matters and always want someone to be around to console them.
Physically and even emotionally, they have tendency towards changeability of symptoms. The aches and pains in the body keep shifting from one part to another. All the symptoms get aggravated in the closed environment or closed room. They always crave for open air.
Pulsatilla is considered as primarily as Women’s Remedy in Homeopathy. But it is effective in all age groups irrespective of gender. This remedy has a broad spectrum of positive effects on different systems in a human body.
- Headaches: Generally, this is a good remedy for headaches associated with menstrual periods. Headaches towards the end of menstrual period which gets aggravated in the closed and stuffy room and gets ameliorated in the open-air calls for Pulsatilla.
- Respiratory Symptoms: Pulsatilla is indicated in the patients having blocked nose or sneezing with bland nasal catarrh with greenish mucous discharge. Associated with allergic reactions of the eyelids.
- Eye Symptoms: Indicated for styes on the upper eyelids. Itching and burning of the eyelids which gets better by cold application.
- Digestive Symptoms: Craving for rich, fatty food which can cause extreme abdominal bloating and nausea. There is no thirst for water.
- Gynaecological Symptoms include suppressed or delayed periods, irregular and painful menses especially during puberty.
- Ear Symptoms: Acute and chronic infections with thick, yellow discharge with bad odour.
Potency and Dosage:
Potency and dosage differ case to case. It is dependent on the severity and intensity of the symptoms. The constitution is well studied before deciding the potency and repetition of the medicine.
Pulsatilla 30 can be taken every two to four hours in various acute cases depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Clinical presentation:
A fifteen-year-old young girl came with a presenting complaint of scanty and delayed menstruation. Since menarche, she did not have any time of menses. The character of blood varies every cycle. The date keeps changing and generally its after 45 days. Severe abdominal cramps and thick whitish leucorrhoea while lying in bed are the associated symptoms. Acne on the face which gets aggravated before periods. She has no thirst for water and appetite is poor. Mentally, she is very sentimental. Cries on a slightest trigger. Wants someone to be near her always. Cannot stay alone.
Prescription:
Dec 29, 2022:
Pulsatilla 200 one dose was prescribed Placebo thrice daily was given for a month.
Follow up after one month Jan 30, 2023:
Pulsatilla 200 was repeated after a month.
The girl started having better skin and periods came after one month and has been regular from last 3 months.
